APPLICATION GUIDELINES
The Application
This application form serves a double purpose in that it is an application for admission to Berea College as well as an application for Berea's full tuition scholarship, which is granted to every admitted student. It is the responsibility of each applicant to submit all required components of the application. The admissions office will acknowledge receipt of each application and periodically notify applicants of items needed to complete their files. All components of the application are important to the review process. Therefore, successful applicants will wish to consider carefully their responses to all questions and requirements. Note: This application is for domestic applicants only.
Early Review
A limited number of spaces will be filled through Berea's Early Review Process. In order to be considered for early review, well-qualified candidates must complete application requirements by November 30. Since the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is not made available until after January 1 of the following year, all Early Review candidates must submit the Family Resource Questionnaire.
Other Deadlines
After November 30, admissions decisions are made on a monthly basis until spaces are filled. Deadlines are the last day of each month. Once all spaces are filled, well-qualified, late applicants may be placed on a waiting list in the event additional spaces become available.
Transfer Applicants
Berea encourages the application of transfer students who have achieved a minimum college GPA of 3.0. Students who have attended a regionally accredited institution and earned a grade of C or higher in each course can expect all of their course work to transfer. Students who have completed more than 95 semester hours of college credit may not be eligible for admission. In no case is any student who has earned an undergraduate degree eligible for admission.
Spring Applicants
A limited number of spaces for the spring term will be available to students who have accumulated no more than 18 semester hours of credit. Offers of admission are made to well-qualified candidates on a rolling basis, beginning around the first of November. Applicants who intend to pursue a nursing degree should be aware that prerequisites exist for spring term entrance, including successful completion of a college-level anatomy course which includes gross anatomy (ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY I at many institutions). Minimum test scores are also required, including a 19 on the mathematics portion of the ACT and a pre-algebra sub-score of no less than 10; or a minimum recentered score of 480 on the mathematics section of the SAT I.
Nominations
Though many applicants are officially nominated for admission each year by teachers, coaches, pastors, and other advocates, acquiring a nomination for admission is not required.
