2009-2010 Application for Admission

Application Information

A message from the campus:

Admission procedures at Eastern are simple, whether you are entering college for the first time or transferring from another college or university.

EKU accepts all graduates of accredited Kentucky and out-of-state secondary schools who meet specified admission requirements.

Admission by special approval is available to outstanding high school students prior to their graduation as well as students who have passed the General Educational Development (GED) test and persons who desire a specialized course or series of courses. Jump Start and high school special admit students must make application for admission as a new first-time freshman in order to be admitted as a degree-seeking student.

How to Apply

  1. Complete this online application early in your senior year. If you need assistance, contact your high school guidance counselor or the EKU Office of Admissions. Students who were previously enrolled at Eastern Kentucky University must reapply for admission as a readmitted student if they have not been enrolled at Eastern during the previous academic term.
  2. Along with this online application, submit a sixth-semester (through the junior year) high school transcript and a $30 application fee.
  3. When submitting your application fee by check, please indicate on the check to whom the fee should be credited and the expected semester of enrollment. The application fee is not required of students seeking admission status as a readmitted student, Jump Start, or high school special admit student. All other admissions categories require an application fee.
  4. Take the ACT or SAT and have your official test results sent to EKU.
  5. Apply for campus housing. Please answer the appropriate question on screen 2 of this online application. A housing application will be mailed after you have been notified of admission to the university.
  6. Apply for financial assistance by the March 15 priority deadline. Secure the necessary forms from your high school guidance counselor.
  7. Arrange to have a final high school transcript (clearly indicating your graduation date) sent to the Office of Admissions immediately after you graduate.
  8. Attend summer orientation.

General Requirements for Admission

You must provide an admission application and evidence of appropriate scholastic achievement through prior educational experience.

Please note that certain degree programs have separate, special admission requirements. Admission to the university does not mean automatic admission to all degree programs.

To be admitted to the university for Fall 2009 as a freshman you must:

  • Be a high school graduate, have a GED, or have completed an approved home-school curriculum. If you are in your senior year, you may be admitted tentatively upon submission of a sixth-semester (through your junior year) high school transcript. After graduation, you must submit a final high school transcript certifying the actual date of graduation.
  • Provide American College Test (ACT) or SAT Reasoning Test (SAT) scores.
  • Have completed Kentucky's Pre-college Curriculum, or the equivalent thereof. This curriculum requires four specified units of English (English I, II, III, and IV), three units of mathematics (algebra I and II and geometry), three units of social science, three units of science, two units of a foreign language, one-half unit of health, one-half unit of physical education, one unit of history and appreciation of visual, performing arts and five units of electives. If you have not completed the Pre-college Curriculum, you will be required to remediate deficiencies within a specified period during your enrollment.

NOTE: Courses used to remediate English and mathematics deficiencies will not apply to the credits required for graduation from the university.

Instructions for the seven admission categories follow. Please find your admission category based on the definitions in each section, and follow the instructions for that category. Use these definitions to answer the question on screen 2 of this online application.

Postbachelor's students must submit an application for admission and official transcripts from all institutions attended.

Visiting Students

They must submit an application for admission and verification of good standing from their home institution. Visiting students are not eligible to receive financial assistance.

Applicants admitted as nondegree seekers are not eligible to receive financial assistance.
